Dive Into History

Albany is a history and architecture lover’s destination. Our four historic districts include styles from the 1840s through the late 1920s. In fact, we have one of the most varied collections in Oregon. Tour them on your own or join us for seasonal celebrations.

Albany’s historic collection includes everything from colorful Queen Annes, the “painted ladies” of historic homes, to Craftsman Bungalows that feature a variety of natural materials. The home of Albany’s founders, the pioneer-era Monteith House, has been restored with period-correct detail and serves as a house museum. You can take a self-guided tour of historic districts anytime, or visit during the Annual Christmas Parlour Tour for a peek inside a few lovingly-restored homes. Albany is also home to museums, antique shops and over 700 historic buildings; outside the city lies a loop of picturesque covered bridges. A visit to Albany is an experience rich in pioneer history and charm.

“Nestled into peaceful farm country, surrounded by colorful leaves and glistening reflections, covered bridges are just too pretty to resist photographing…” -- Travel Oregon
