National Historic Preservation Month
For updated information about events and fun activities happening for Preservation Month, which happens every year in May, visit our Events Calendar or our Blog, both of which have information about activities for the month. You can find out more about events throughout the country at the National Trust for Historic Preservation website. Part of Albany's grace is that we work with our many business and government partners to keep you engaged. So let's get excited about how to stay in touch.
Antiques in the Streets
Each September, the Saturday after Labor Day is the traditional date to browse through Historic Downtown Albany with antiques filling the streets. For more information regarding this event, contact the Albany Antique Mall.
Christmas Parlor Tour
On the second Sunday in December, from 2 p.m. - 7 p.m., you can take a self-guided tour past several historic homes and experience the sights and sounds of a Victorian holiday. For information, call 541-928-0911.
History Through Headstones Tour
If you've always been fascinated by the elaborate headstones and cemetery artwork of bygone eras, come to Albany in mid-July for this walking tour. It takes visitors through Albany's pioneer cemeteries, where you can learn the stories behind the monuments. The tour takes place annually in July and is sponsored by the Albany Regional Museum.
Night-Time Magic
Once again, the Albany Visitors Association is helping to make the holiday season bright by sponsoring the annual Night Time Magic Holiday Light Contest. Residents are encouraged to enter the contest for the best use of lights in decorating the exterior of their homes. People wishing to drive the route to look at the participating locations can pick up a list of participants and a map at the Albany Visitors Association beginning mid-December. Lights will be on through the end of December. Call the Albany Visitors Association for more information, 541-928-0911.
