Where City Strolls Meet Waterfalls: An Albany Adventure

Looking for a getaway that blends small-town charm, scenic beauty, and unforgettable food? Welcome to Albany, Oregon. In just three days, you can stroll through historic downtown, savor local flavors, chase nearby waterfalls, and toast with Willamette Valley wines. From antique shopping to farm-fresh bites, Albany has a knack for surprising visitors with its laid-back vibe and hidden gems. Get ready to explore, relax, and make the most of every moment!

For a hearty and satisfying brunch, swing by Brick & Mortar Café. They serve breakfast and lunch items along with specialty cocktails including mimosas, bloody marys, or bellinis. Order your entree mortar style–with house sausage gravy, cheddar cheese, bacon, and shredded potatoes. You won’t be disappointed.

Once you’re energized, wander through Albany’s historic downtown, where architecture buffs can geek out on the eclectic building styles—Albany is known as the most architecturally diverse city in Oregon. Along the way, browse the antique stores and boutique shops housed in these classic structures. You’ll uncover hidden gems like vintage finds and one-of-a-kind artwork. Take your time and soak up the local atmosphere!

Ready for a dash of nature? Make the 45-minute drive from Albany to McDowell Creek Falls near Lebanon. This gorgeous waterfall hike will give you plenty of photo ops, fresh forest air, and maybe even a chance to spot some wildlife. But first, stop by Grazing Oregon Charcuteries to pick up a Grazing Box, packed with artisanal cheeses, meats, and other goodies sourced with incredible care by owner Janice Myers. For an extra dash of fancy, you can also swing by Wine Crush and grab a bottle of Willamette Valley wine—nothing says “picnic in the woods” like a perfect pairing.

If you’re not planning to drive, take a stroll along the Willamette River. Monteith Riverpark reopened in 2024 after a complete renovation, and it’s still a great spot to enjoy a picnic on the lush grass or at a picnic table. Cool off at the splashpad, or stick around for a summer concert in the evening.

After a busy day, get fancy for dinner and check out Sybaris. The chef at this innovative restaurant, Matt Bennett, has been nominated twice as Best Chef in the Northwest by the James Beard Foundation. Sybaris Bistro brings Oregon’s best flavors to your table with a seasonal menu, creative dishes, an extensive Northwest-focused wine list, and a full bar. Don’t skip dessert–Chef Bennett also has a background as a pastry chef and even the icecream is made inhouse!

Start off the last day of your Albany adventure with a cozy morning at Margin Coffee, where they roast sustainably sourced coffee at their Roastery on Santiam Hwy. They also make their own pastries, sandwiches, and desserts to accompany their hot or cold beverage. Sip a latte and soak up the welcoming, laid-back vibe.

After that, venture to Springhill Cellars for a wine tasting (call ahead, because they’re open seasonally). Sip on exquisite Willamette Valley wines while gazing at the beautiful mountain view. Next, zip on over to Midway Farms, renowned for being Oregon’s only 100% gluten-free farm. They offer fresh produce and homemade goodies that will make your taste buds do a happy dance.

Cap the night off with a last toast to Albany at Calapooia Brewing. On Sunday, they host a lively blues jam, and their relaxing outdoor seating is the perfect spot to kick back with a cold beer or cider. They’re a “brewstillery,” so if you prefer cocktails, enjoy a drink made with Vivacity Spirits, their sister distillery.

And just like that, your time in Albany comes to a close. You’ve explored downtown shops, discovered breathtaking waterfalls, sipped flavorful wines, and relished the region’s best bites. Whether it’s the fresh breeze off the Willamette River or the friendly faces in each local spot, Albany leaves you with warm memories and a longing to return. Until next time—cheers to more adventures in Oregon’s hidden gem!
