Accessible Albany:
Inclusive Travel for All

Albany welcomes travelers of all abilities with thoughtful planning, clear information, and a genuine spirit of inclusion. This page is designed to help you explore Albany with confidence by sharing accessibility details for lodging, dining, attractions, and experiences, so you know what to expect before you arrive. Whether you are visiting for a day or settling in for a longer stay, Albany is committed to making your time here comfortable, welcoming, and memorable.

Albany is a Wheel the World Verified Destination, meaning several hotels, attractions, and restaurants have been carefully reviewed and documented for accessibility. With this program, you’ll find specific details such as step-free entrances, bathroom layouts, door widths, and parking access. Instead of general claims, you can see exactly which features are available and choose the options that best fit your needs. Learn more about Albany’s Accessibility Verified Destinations and plan your trip today.

Our Accessible Visitor Guide provides clear, screen-reader-friendly information to help visitors with vision difficulties navigate Albany. Created in partnership with accessibility experts at Ablr, it is designed to work with assistive technology and is supported by website updates that improve access for all users. Our staff is happy to assist if you need help planning your visit.

Our Visitors Center at 122 Ferry St. SW is an inclusive community space with accessible parking, a barrier-free push-button entry, and a fully accessible restroom. During large events, including the Linn County Veterans Day Parade, we make every effort to keep the office open for public use. Our team is always happy to assist during your visit.

Thanks to a grant from Travel Oregon, the Albany Visitors Association offers EnChroma glasses for loan to visitors with red-green color blindness. With these glasses, you can see a broader spectrum of colors, making Albany’s parks, art, and attractions more vibrant. You’ll notice new details on the hand-carved animals at the Albany Historic Carousel & Museum, the greens and yellows of Monteith Riverpark will stand out more vividly, and the artwork at Gallery Calapooia will reveal its full range of hues. Glasses are available to borrow at the Visitors Center, and our staff is happy to help you find the perfect spots to try them. Learn more about the program at Albany in Color!

In addition to being Wheel the World verified for visitors who use mobility devices, the Albany Historic Carousel & Museum offers additional services designed to support a wide range of access needs and help everyone feel comfortable and welcome. Accessibility is an ongoing promise. They continuously seek ways to improve, guided by feedback from guests and partners like Wheel the World.

The Carousel also offers an Electronic Translator Service to support visitors who speak languages other than English. Using the Wordly AI platform, guests can access on-demand translation in more than 100 languages. During guided tours, the presenter wears a microphone while visitors use earbuds to hear real-time audio translations, making exhibits and storytelling easier to follow and more inclusive for a global audience.

Sensory Friendly Mornings at the Historic Carousel & Museum take place every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. During these hours, the carousel operates at a slower pace with reduced music volume, creating a calmer, more comfortable environment for visitors with sensory sensitivities. The museum also maintains a quieter, less crowded atmosphere to support a relaxed experience. If at any time the noise feels overwhelming, visitors are welcome to ask an employee or volunteer for earplugs, which are always available.

With the help of ASL interpreter Rose Heth, Mayor Alex Johnson welcomes visitors to Albany. He encourages visitors to check out the revitalized riverfront and enjoy our top-notch restaurants, along with his suggestions for can't-miss attractions. And if you see Mayor Alex in town, don’t hesitate to stop and say hello!
