Willamette Valley Symphony Presents:
African Influences Rhythmic Textures and Diverse Melodies

Willamette Valley Symphony presents its season finale with works by composers of African and Latin American heritage, including Freddy Vilches’ African/Cuban Symphony, William Grant Still’s Afro-American Symphony, and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Petit Suite de Concert.
Featured composer Freddy Vilches is a Portland-based composer, singer, multi-instrumentalist, and educator originally from Santiago, Chile. He holds a PhD in Latin American Literature from the University of Oregon and serves as an Associate Professor at Lewis & Clark College, where he teaches Latin American music and literature. His compositions aim to honor marginalized communities and build cultural bridges across the Americas.
The concert takes place in Albany, with a pre-concert talk offered 45 minutes before the performance.
A second performance will be held the following day in Corvallis from 4 - 6:30 p.m. at Ashbrook Independent School, also featuring a pre-concert talk 45 minutes before the performance.
