1st Friday at Gallery Calapooia featuring Dick Powell

Featured Artists: Dick Powell

First Friday Artist Reception is free of charge. Light refreshments provided.

Local artist Dick Powell celebrates the story of wood in his work. For thousands of years, wood has shaped human civilization—fueling fire, carrying people across oceans, and building the foundations of society. Civilizations rose and fell with their forests, and wood even played a role in the American Revolution.

Today, Powell works with salvaged wood—often scraps from recent harvests or even his own firewood pile. Rather than hiding imperfections like cracks or wormholes, he highlights them. Each piece honors the history of the tree it came from. Through resin and reclaimed wood, Powell invites viewers to see beauty in what was once overlooked.

This show runs from May 27 - June 28
