Albany Farmers’ Market:
Where Saturday Morning Begins

Saturday mornings in downtown Albany begin with a familiar rhythm. Reusable bags swing at the sides of early shoppers as they move between rows of canopies, pausing to greet growers and peek into baskets filled with the season’s colors. Deep greens, bright reds, and sun-warmed gold fruits and vegetables are stacked on tables and arranged in wooden bins, while nearby buckets of fresh-cut flowers add a light, fresh fragrance to the morning air.

Water Avenue

The Albany Farmers’ Market returns April 18 in a new location at Water Avenue and Ferry Street. Set just steps from the Albany Historic Carousel & Museum and Monteith Riverpark, the market now runs along Water Avenue’s red brick plaza, alongside the park's paved riverfront path, splashpad, and play area that beckons families to stay a little longer.

Vendors arrange their goods with care. At one stall, crisp vegetables, just harvested. At the next, handmade breads and pastries. Then, local meats and seafood reflect the surrounding region. Jars, bundles, and wooden crates create a patchwork of textures that invite closer inspection. Shoppers lean in, ask questions, and leave with ingredients that carry the story of where they were grown.

At one end of the market, children gather at the Power of Produce table. Their voices rise in quick bursts of excitement as they sample seasonal fruits and vegetables. Some eagerly reach for another bite, while others wrinkle their noses and declare a quick "yuck" before stepping back. Even so, the experience stays with them. Each visit brings another chance to try again, building familiarity one taste at a time. It is a small but steady reminder that the market is as much about learning as it is about shopping.

This season also introduces Market Director Taylor Kamsler Wilson, who brings experience in regional agriculture and a connection to local growers. “Farmers and small businesses are the backbone of our communities,” Wilson said. “It is an honor to become a part of the Albany Farmers’ Market.”

The setting encourages visitors to build a full morning around the market. Start with coffee and a pastry from a nearby downtown café before wandering through the booths, or plan to stay for lunch and browse the surrounding shops once your bags are full. The riverfront offers space to relax, while the nearby carousel adds a sense of place that feels distinctly Albany.

For many, the market is less about a checklist and more about the experience itself. It is the scent of flowers carried on a light breeze, the sound of conversation between neighbors, and the quiet satisfaction of supporting local growers in a place that continues to evolve while holding onto its roots.
