Sun’s Out, Fun’s On:
June in Albany, Oregon

Summer in Albany means longer days and plenty of ways to enjoy them. From the weekly Albany Farmers’ Market and lively 4th Fridays at Springhill Cellars Winery to the creative energy of the Black Sheep Gathering, there’s something for everyone. Explore private gardens on the Through the Garden Gate tour or uncover mysteries at the Albany X-Files exhibit. Mark your calendar and make the most of the season.

Located just steps from Historic Downtown Albany, Monteith Riverpark is a vibrant destination along the scenic Willamette River. Reopened in July 2024 after major renovations, the park features a new amphitheater, a nature-inspired playground, a splash pad open daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and rebuilt river overlooks. Families can enjoy shaded seating while kids explore the playground or cool off at the splash pad. The park connects to the 1.5-mile Dave Clark Trail, ideal for walking or biking with easy access to local favorites like Deluxe Brewing and Calapooia Brewing. Monteith Riverpark also hosts River Rhythms, a free summer concert series beginning in July. This year's lineup includes Tiffany, Collin Raye, Don McLean, Bohemian Queen, and Blind Boys of Alabama. The park offers accessible pathways, wheelchair seating, and smooth connections for strollers and walkers.

The Albany Historic Carousel & Museum has been delighting visitors of all ages for nearly 10 years. Step inside to experience the magic of a restored 1909 Dentzel carousel mechanism, brought to life with more than 50 hand-carved animals and mythical creatures crafted by local artisans. Downstairs, explore the museum and carving studio to learn about the carousel’s rich history and watch volunteer carvers at work. The Carousel Gift Shop offers memorable souvenirs, while the Carousel Café provides drinks and snacks for a relaxing break. If you plan to visit the splash pad at Monteith Riverpark—down the hill from the carousel—ride first, then head to the water. Clean, dry riders help protect the carousel’s intricate hand-carved animals.

The Albany Farmers’ Market, the oldest continuously operated open-air farmers’ market in Oregon, is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through November. Located at 4th Avenue and Ellsworth Street in the City Hall parking lot, this vibrant market offers visitors a wide selection of fresh, locally grown produce, flowers, bread, eggs, meats, and artisanal goods. Children can participate in the Power of Produce Club, a hands-on educational program that promotes healthy eating and agricultural awareness. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, the Albany Farmers’ Market is a must-visit destination for authentic, farm-fresh flavors and a strong sense of community.

On Saturday, June 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Through the Garden Gate tour invites you to explore six unique gardens bursting with lush plantings and creative landscaping ideas. Presented by Linn County Master Gardeners, this self-guided tour offers visitors the chance to meet Master Gardeners and garden owners who will be available to answer questions and share expert tips. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at LinnMasterGardeners.com or in person at the Albany Visitors Association with cash or check.

The Black Sheep Gathering returns to the Linn County Expo Center from Friday through Sunday, June 27–29. This unique annual event celebrates natural-colored animals and their fiber with a vibrant marketplace featuring more than 100 vendors, including local artisans from the Willamette Valley and beyond. Attendees can sign up for hands-on workshops led by expert instructors. Saturday evening brings a community potluck with a BBQ dinner, live music, and the popular Spinners’ Lead showcase, where fiber artists present their handmade garments alongside the animals that provided the fiber. Admission and parking are free.

Plan a night out at Springhill Cellars Winery for 4th Fridays, held from 5:30 to 10 p.m. on June 27 and every fourth Friday through August. Sip on Springhill’s wines alongside selections from Fullerton Winery, craft beers from Deluxe Brewing and Calapooia Brewing, and cider from 2 Towns Ciderhouse. Enjoy a catered meal, a cheese plate, or bring your own picnic while relaxing to live jazz by Just Lonna starting at 7 p.m. Reservations and a small fee may be required.
